A bit of advice for new HUHC students: Peggy Anne is awesome, but thats about it. Dont just associate yourself with the honors college, its pretty overrated

i was wondering what honors seminars/classes if any you guys were planning to take for next semester. i want to take the food and culture one but i have a feeling it will be closed out really early. in that case, my second choice is the gothic literature class. but i'm reallyyy hoping for the food class ;/!! what about you guys?

So, for the freshmen, who do you have for c&e?
For the upperclassmen, who did you have and how were they?
For Dean Russell....hello! Welcome!
I have Marchesi and Cobb...but I don't think it's in that order.

hi everyone.:)
it's been very quiet around here lately, so i'm posting to say hello. i hope everyone is enjoying the last days of their summer. everyone comment with things that they've almost forgotten that they will need to bring to school; maybe we can help each other remember silly little things like paper towels and socks.
love, jackie.
p.s. welcome, dean russell.:)

Here ya go kids... [24 Aug 2004|07:54pm]

[ mood | ecstatic ]

wow. well i just have to say that as of today, i am damn grateful for the honors college. so the story goes...

i had a crazy semester last fall. had issues i was dealing with and the such. well, as it turns out, i didn't take enough credits to keep my scholarship. so i lost it. now my gpa is pretty darn good...and who knew you needed a certain number of credits to keep a scholarship? well my parents started freaking out on me and i didn't know what else to do, so i called the honors office...

peggy anne hooked me up to dean russell. he took down my cell number and said he'd get back to me after i explained my predicament. 20 minutes later he calls me and says, "you have your money back."

i am saved and my parents no longer feel the need to murder me. so kids...appreciate life, because i don't think it gets much better than this. and dean russell is the man!

I know I already asked this, but I never got an answer...

People who've lived in Liberty before, is there any cooking area type thing in the dorm? I know there's lots of places to eat on and off campus, but I know I'm not going to feel like eating in a cafeteria for every single meal. For example, if you don't have a microwave in your room, is there one somewhere to use? And a stove top, maybe? Thanks.

hey everyone!

i'm jennifer. i'm sure many of you are familiar with my posts in the hofstra journal and such. i'm the big dork that's always trying to explain things. meh.

i'm a junior (can't wait to be a senior in december! woot woot!). two years at hofstra down, and i can't believe i'm still here. i hated it at first... honors college and getting to know some great people have kept me here :)

i'm a music history major, anthropology minor. i play trombone. i have an interest in ethnomusicology, and want to pursue a masters and doctorate in that field studying traditional irish music (i TOLD you i'm a big dork).

i love all that reading and writing jazz, as well as a billion other things. always looking for new people, places, and things to have fun with.

i've lived in good ol' republic hall in room 104 for the past two years, and i love it dearly. this year will find me as the second floor RA in Nassau. good times. i have a cute, fun room, and you all should visit :)

oh yeah... and i was also a PC this summer, so i should have in some way, shape, or form met all of you incoming freshpeople! come say hi when you get settled in ;)

my sn is: Quincywsmith

feel so absolutely free to holla at me!

Okie, so, this would be a good place to ask those of you who have lived in and/or frequented Liberty. Is there a kitchen in there anywhere? And where do we do laundry?

*Oh yeah, I'm Katie,
*I live in Liberty,
*I'm from Binghamton NY
*and I'm undecided.
*My favorite books are all pretty much kids books (or, if you prefer, "children's literature"). I'm not sure why - I just feel that we seem to always tell our best stories to kids. The Santa's story is a lot better then the stressed-out holiday traffic jam and waiting on line stories. But that's just an example, and that's just me.
*My favorite musicians are Barenaked Ladies, Blues Traveler, Great Big Sea, Moxy Fruvous....and a bunch of others. Ask if you're interested.
*I choose Hofstra because I have *no clue* what is going on in life, and this is much cheaper way to figure things out then attending huge universities where I'd probably be taught by grad students. Plus I like being close to NYC without being in the city. I'm not sure I could ever be a big city girl.
*Calvin and Hobbes is the best cartoon strip ever.

That's probably enough for now. My sn is LilacGirl8688. IM me and say hi, I'm friendly.

hey robbie...

i just wanna say that this community is very cool. people will always think huhc is elitist. what can you do?

i am glad that we now have our own little lj space to discuss honors things. so keep up the good work. i feel like huhc has jaded me in certain ways, so it's refreshing to see people coming in with such uplifting attitudes.

dann....liberty....blah blah you all know it (and if you dont, too bad!)

Ok, favorite book House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, and if you've read it you'd agree.
Daniel Quinn is amazing too. The book is Ishmael, read it.

i used to like palahinuk....but not so much anymore. its a very cool writing style, and it keeps you interested, but its just too easy for me. after reading like 5 of his books, that was it for me.

i love stuff thats more underground. authors that not everyone knows. that way when someone does know what i'm talking about, i know they're cool.

does anyone know the comic Alex Pardee? F-ing amazing. love him. had his calander 2 years now, and like all his books.

I'm reading a really really good book right now. Its called Nothing Feels Good, and its the history of Emo music. I've learned so much, and found so many great bands. its amazing.

i prefer non fiction books though. Like Fast Food Nation. Thats some good stuff.

haha, i read a lot.

Oooo, i'm also reading a book right now called The Mole People, all about the homeless living underground in the deserted subway systems in ny.

i'm such a nerd. but arent we all? we're in honors college!

haha, once again the honors kids are secluding themselves....lets just hope that no one thinks that we think we're better than anyone else...

favorite professor from honors this past year: definitely Professor Brand. Doubleday was awesome as well.

I am excited for school and just the arrival of Autumn. I get way too excited for it, especially Halloween- dress up+ make up+candy corn= omg I love it

btw, I walked around campus in my Sailor Mercury costume last Halloween..and may do that again if my budget and/or lack of creativity and/or love of that particular costume prevent(s) me from getting something cooler together

Feel free to im me:

Oh, and let me know if you are in my immediate vicinity in Republic...

even though anyone who lives anywhere in Liberty or Republic is extremely close anyway

hey there

i feel like this is repetitive, but whatever...

my name is Jessica...
i'm gonna be a senior at Hofstra this fall and i'll be living in Orange House, Netherlands South
i'm an English major and a Jewish Studies minor
i hated Hofstra my first two years there...then it grew on me (so there is hope should you freshman decide you hate it)
this semester i am taking 4 english classes and a math class
i'm from Rockville, Maryland
i am 21 years old
i love musical theater
my favorite professors at Hofstra are Eduardo Duarte, Jacques Berlinerblau, Charles Anderson and W. Thomas MacCary
despite the fact that i am an English major, i hate capitalization and will usually avoid it when typing online (as not to confuse anyone about my horrendous computer etiquette)

that's about all i can think of for now...

my sn is JMforRENT...and that's rent like the musical, not rent like i sell myself for money...

Hi. I'm Siobhan, and I'm an incoming freshman.
I'm from Milford, CT.
I chose Hofstra because it's less expensive than NYU.
I'm taking a bunch of honors classes this semester, which I'm probably going to regret.
I'm majoring in biochemistry, which I'm also probably going to regret. Eh.
I want to work in pharmaceutical research.
I'm living in Republic..108, I think. Maybe 106.
I'm taking German, Chemistry, Calculus, and Culture and Expression.
My favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut and John Irving, and my idol is Stephen Hawking and I like Futurama.
The end.
